Talismanic JFK treasures to be auctioned on Feb. 17

“It may be the coolest coat in American history: John F. Kennedy’s leather bomber jacket, size 44, adorned with the seal of the president,” says the Cape Cod Times. “And you can own it.”

I talked about the power these treasures exert on the American imagination in a recent post, “JFK: faith, fact and heresy.”

  1. The leather flight jacket with the presidential seal was worn frequently by RFK AFTER JFK was murdered, so JFK couldn’t have given it to Powers, who had to acquire it after RFK was done wearing it. Such questions of provenance of such items should be determined for it is sold at auction.
