A small data dump from the Harry S Truman Library, courtesy of a regular reader. Exactly one month after the assassination of JFK, Truman wrote in the Washington Post that the CIA’s covert action division should be abolished. The CIA tried to pressure him into recanting.
He didn’t.

Last I checked, the CIA website was still propagating Dulles’ fiction that the Dec. 22 editorial was written by a ghostwriter instead of HST himself.
It’s a shame their conversation wasn’t recorded or else we could have an exact count of how many lies Dulles put into his memo to Houston.
Sounds like Truman wanted to break the CIA into a thousand pieces and scatter it to the winds.
