The assassination of President John F. Kennedy is a difficult subject, whose complexities many historians and journalist deny or avoid. Now comes Joe Mysak, a Businessweek writer who wants to avert his eyes (and ours) from “JFK porn.”
For Mysake, it seems the whole story is too graphic. It provokes lust and other uncontrollable emotions. His plea: “don’t look at it.” The impulse to deny has rarely been stated so frankly.
“The impulse to deny has rarely been stated so frankly.”
The headline is pure clickbait. The article is an opinion piece comprising half a dozen perfunctory book reviews by a writer who would clearly rather be reading and writing about something other than the general topic of JFK.
“The passage of time and the diligence of historians and journalists have knocked some of the luster and a lot of the sentiment off our 35th president’s 1,000 days in office. At this point, though, the soup is getting pretty thin. JFK as subject matter could use a sabbatical.”
If this is media denial, Mysak phoned that one in.
